I've had questions from a couple of people about the MARFU and National playoffs. Here's some info. Remember that, in addition to the playoffs, we also have a home match with Georgetown on April 2nd.
MARFU
March 19 - We host Salisbury University. If we win that match, then
March 26 - MARFU semifinal @ Shippensburg U.
March 27 - MARFU consolation match or final @ Shippensburg U.
If we make it to the semifinals, we'll drive up to Shippensburg on Friday afternoon. We'll drive back on Sunday after our match. It's about a 3 hour drive.
If we win at least one match at Shippensburg, we qualify for Nationals. There are two venues for the first round of Nationals. If we finish 1st or 2nd in MARFU, we play at UC San Diego. If we finish 3rd, we play at the Seminole Soccer Complex in Sanford, FL. Sanford is about 30 minutes north of Orlando.
Nationals Round of 16 and Quarterfinals are
April 16 - First round match
April 17 - Quarterfinal or consolation match.
If we play in Florida, we'll take a bus down on Thursday, April 14 and return after our match on Sunday. It's about a 13 hour drive + stops for food and changing drivers.
If we play in San Diego, we'll fly on Thursday, April 14 and (probably) take the redeye back Sunday the 17. With luck we'll be back by noon on Monday.
So start now letting your professors know you might have to miss class Thursday, Friday, and at least Monday morning. Plan ahead and get your schoolwork and job stuff organized. You will have time to study on the trip.
If we win both matches that weekend, we qualify for the Nationals Final Four. Those matches are at Founders Field in Cheswick, PA just outside of Pittsburgh.
April 30 - National Semifinal match
May 1 - National Final match
April 30 is the Saturday after UMW finals. It's about a 6 hour drive, so we can probably leave Friday morning. So if you have an exam scheduled for that Friday, tell your professor now that you might have to take it early.
