Hi Mary Wash, Congrats on a fine season! Just wanted to give you all a heads up on Northern Virginia Women's summer 7 schedule. If any of you live in the NOVA area and will be home during the summer months and need to get your rugby fix please come out to 7s! It's really fun and helps sharpen those ball handling and field awareness skills and it's also a great way to stay in shape for fall! Anywho, here's a sneak peak at our schedule. Feel free to email me if you have any other questions! emily.blease@gmail.com We will be bringing AT LEAST one side (and up to 3 or 4) to a lot of these tournaments. If you aren't a competitive 7s player and still want to play for fun- don't worry- there will be space for everyone! Mark the dates on your calendar and plan your vacations around the 7s schedule. May 23- (Wednesday) practice starts! June 2 - *June 9 - Ruggerama June 16 - Norfolk (?) or North Penn *June 23 - PAC 7s (Probably- maybe Washington) *June 30 - Wilmington, DE *July 7 - Cape Fear July 14 - Rocky Gorge (?) or off *July 21 - MARFU July 28 - *Aug 4 - Nationals Aug 18 - NASC

Hello ladies! Good luck with your finals this week! Wanted to again post a little something here to persuade you lovely and talented Mary Wash ruggers to consider playing NOVA 7s. Here are my main points:
(A) Our first side won MARFU 7s for 9 years straight, and also won Nationals in 2009 and 2010, and came in third in 2011.
(B) The best thing about NOVA, in my opinion, is that we have two or often three competitive sides, and then sometimes a few social sides as well. Our NOVA 2 team took third at MARFUs last year, and placed 9th at Nationals in 2009 and 2010, and should be back at Nationals again this year (there was a new rule last year that disqualified them from entering, but we're fixing that up). This season will be my third season of NOVA 7s and I cannot stress to you how much my rugby skills have improved.
(C) USA Rugby connections (Especially since they're starting to look for players for the 2016 Olympics). Beth Black and Lauren Hoeck are the NOVA 1 captains, and they both have a direct line (Beth especially) to Ric Suggit, the USA 7s coach. This means not only that we can recommend players, but that we keep updated on new skills drills / patterns of play / trick plays / fitness drills / etc. Ric's style of play is so loose and fun, we try to incorporate what we can from him.
(D) MARFU 7s connections. Our head coach, Dana Creager, is also the MARFU 7s coach, so we clearly have a direct line for that as well. Dana played on the USA rugby team for years, and is the best 7s scrummer in the country (seriously, she's a force). She'll get everyone up to speed on where to stand for kick-offs, how to play effective defense, etc, straight away, and really provides and excellent platform on which to add all your athleticism and creativity. We also have Toshi Palamo (if you know Thretton Palamo, he's his older brother) come out and teach us to think outside the box, Samoan rugby style.
(E) NOVA is fun. After Wednesday practices we all head over to Ramparts and grab a drink before calling it a night. Not to mention the Cape Fear 7s tournament is a total blast and right on the beach!
(F) NOVA 15s. (For you graduating seniors) Last fall we took third at 15s Nationals (losing by 1 point in the semi, brutal!). We've had a few veteran players retire since the fall, so we have some spots to fill in a really fun line-up. Our 15s coaches include Crazy, with whom I definitely recommend watching some video (he has sooo much video and will take the time to prepare clips of exactly what you want to focus on), Lance, who also works with Pete Steinberg and the USA 15s forwards, and most recently Joanne Liu, who coached Boston College and Georgetown.
(G) Is anyone still reading? I'm going to force myself to stop now.

Good afternoon Mary Wash Ruggers! NOVA's Ruggerama tournament is this weekend and NOVA is looking for a few fine lady ruggers to fill out our 3rd and 4th side.
It will be a fun morning of 7s and you will receive coaching and feedback from our highly esteemed coaching staff. Cost is merely $15 dollars (what a steal!) and we will provide uniforms and a great time.
If you are interested in getting that rugby itch scratched this weekend, please email kristencampbell9@gmail.com.
Hope to see some of my fellow Mdub ruggers out this weekend or at NOVA practice in the near future!!
