Hello teammates!
I have a request for you all. Would it be possible for us to pretend that these last 4 practices of this semester are not, in fact, the last practices of the semester, and that they are very important practices? I'd really like for them to be just like they're supposed to be. Everyone who can possibly be there should attend. We should get our heads and hearts into it as much as possible. These aren't just screw-around days that we have leftover. For 12 of us, they are the last days we have with Mary Wash rugby. I know I, at least, would not like to remember them as unfocused and in low attendance. I want to squeeze every last drop out of it. [that's what she said]
I know it's near the end of the semester, and there are papers, presentations, and projects, but there are also 24 usable hours in every day. I'm only asking for 2 of them, 3 times a week. Maybe don't schedule that group meeting during practice time, for example. When your group members ask when you're available, say, "Not during these class times, and 4-6pm on M,W,F." That's what I say, anyway, because my priorities are: 1. rugby; 2. friends; 3. class; 4. work. That doesn't need to be your order, that's just so you know where I'm coming from, and I am coming from a land where rugby made my college experience. This team is stronger/better than a sorority because we don't have to pay to make friends (besides CIPP and dues, but those are negligible expenses).
In addition, this is the perfect time to see what you have for next semester, when all of us bruised and battered old ladies leave you to fend for yourselves. Humor me and let us help you while we can. You have a tradition to uphold, and that tradition is to be a flipping awesome team, no matter the W-L-T record. When I come back for the alumni game, I will expect a little bit of a challenge (and to run a Jessica Fletcher with Marissa).
So I love you all very much and blah blah blah. Please bring 100% of yourself to practice. Thank you. MuchÃsimas gracias.
