I just want to keep you all updated on this new fundraiser in process. I am currently trying to get us the pool at the gym to show a movie, probably jaws. We will sell tickets to people to come in and float around and be horrified mwahahhaha. To add a little fun I was thinking we cold take red cellophane and put it over the lights when someone gets bit in the movie making the pool red:) just genius! Also, I would like to try and have popcorn there, but I don't know how much they will like that idea. Ok what I want to know from all of you is who is lifeguard certified and/or CPR or anything slightly helpful encase someone trys to drown on us. Cant wait to see you all at practice!

One problem we might have is securing the rights to show the film, which costs quite a bit of money (I think the lowest is around $200)

I am talking with the people about the certification and there is a possibly as low as a hundred and some. I was thinking it shouldn't be to big of a deal with the money we pulled in over the fall, but let me know what you all think and I will be talking it over with Emily. Obviously, it wouldn't be a good idea if we wouldn't make more than what we spent, so we need to advertise a lot once we get this passed and come up with a reasonable price where we benefit and people don't feel like they are paying an arm and a leg.

LOVE the idea!!
Ok one probs tho. do we have to secure the rights legally?? can't we just plug in a projector with someone's copy of el jaws and that be that? Just a more economical option....
Also we may want to think about showing two flicks- one like jaws that is scarry, but one that is a beach film (blue crush or something) to attracts the less blood enjoying students. I'm not going to lie that if I were not part of the fundraiser, i may not come to jaws, but def to a more upbeat beachy-type thanggg. But having two back to back I think would be great!!! so there are my two cents, and ... well.. bye haha -Em
PS we should try to secure floaties and stuff to you know, float on in the pool! treading water for two hours may be a littttllleee long for the average person!

haha I love your ideas emily! I dont think we are allowed to show our own films on campus not sure why but I could ask. I will let them know we would like to maybe do to movies back to back hopefully the swim team wont need the pool. But I will ask them for blue crush and jaws.

Awesome ideas, I like the two movie idea... if you need a copy of Blue Crush I own it. And unfortunately, I have no lifeguarding skills but I mentioned it to my suitemates and they're very interested in coming when this happens.

i know getting the rights does cost a lot. older movies cost less and movies that the school has already is really cheap (like movies they've projected on the lawn and stuff)

yeah the reason we have to pay for the rights is at the start of every movie, usually with the federal blue background. we wouldn't have to if we didn't charge for people to come see it, but since we charge admission we have to pay for the film. it's part of profit making, if we make a profit, those who made the film have a right to that money...stupid capitalism

What if we show it for free but ask for donations? Or sell raffle tickets to be drawn that night? Is there any way we can get around it since we're a non-profit?

Something tells me even if we were to not sell tickets to it and are showing it to a group of people in a public area we are forced to pay because the money goes to the actors. I can ask, but I did get the quotes on the movies and its not really that bad. I will let you all know what happens.

I love this idea! Something to think about. It would be a lot of fun for people to float in the pool like you said. But only so many people could do that. So it might be a good idea if we had a limited number of pool tickets and then other tickets for people to buy that just want to sit in the bleachers that are maybe like a little less?

well i am thinking april 7th its a Tuesday. I am assuming people wont float the entire movie and therefore when someone gets out another person can get in. But this is all still up in the air so we shall see but that is my thought process on that one
